Passive Fire Protection

Passive Fire Protection is an integral part of any buildings fire safety.  Vital to both protecting the users and tenants of the building and damage of contents and building structure.

Passive fire protection works by using fire rated walls and ceilings [Smoke and Fire Curtains] to restrict the spread of heat, fire, and smoke, containing it within the space or area where it started.

It is used to provide protection within escape routes for building users along with buildings structures and assets.  However, it should also be used in conjunction with fire protection and suppression systems including sprinklers and extinguishers.

Passive fire protection works in conjunction with active fire prevention, such as sprinkler systems, suppression systems and extinguishers, and fire safety education of building occupants.

Fire Stopping

Firestopping, integral to the initial phase of buildings design and their construction of new building and also included in refurbishments where the original passive fire protection may need updating or amending to ensure it continues to provide the protection required for the building in its new state.
